Título: Validação da versão Brasileira da Escala Comportamental de Dor (Behavioral Pain Scale) em adultos sedados e sob ventilação mecânica Autor(es): Azevedo-Santos, Isabela Freire; Alves, Iura Gonzalez Nogueira; Cerqueira Neto, Manoel Luiz de; Badauê-Passos, Daniel; Santana Filho, Valter Joviniano; Santana, Josimari Melo de Abstract: Background and objectives: The Behavioral Pain Scale is a pain assessment tool for uncommunicative and sedated Intensive Care Unit patients. The lack of a Brazilian scale for pain assessment in adults mechanically ventilated justifies the relevance of this study that aimed to validate the Brazilian version of Behavioral Pain Scale as well as to correlate its scores with the records of physiological parameters, sedation level and severity of disease. Methods: Twenty-five Intensive Care Unit adult patients were included in this study. The Brazilian Behavioral Pain Scale version (previously translated and culturally adapted) and the recording of physiological parameters were performed by two investigators simultaneously during rest, during eye cleaning (non-painful stimulus) and during endotracheal suctioning (painful stimulus). Results: High values of responsiveness coefficient (coefficient = 3.22) were observed. The Cronbach’s alpha of total Behavioral Pain Scale score at eye cleaning and endotracheal suctioning was 0.8. The intraclass correlation coefficient of total Behavioral Pain Scale score was ≥ 0.8 at eye cleaning and endotracheal suctioning. There was a significant highest Behavioral Pain Scale score during application of painful procedure when compared with rest period (p ≤ 0.0001). However, no correlations were observed between pain and hemodynamic parameters, sedation level, and severity of disease. Conclusions: This pioneer validation study of Brazilian Behavioral Pain Scale exhibits satisfactory index of internal consistency, interrater reliability, responsiveness and validity. Therefore, the Brazilian Behavioral Pain Scale version was considered a valid instrument for being used in adult sedated and mechanically ventilated patients in Brazil.

Algunos de estos trabajos tienen previsto importantes hallazgos basados en diferentes procedimientos quirúrgicos. De tal forma, el tamaño y ángulo del cóndilo occipital bien como su localización de los orificios intracraneales y extracraneales del canal hipogloso son de gran importancia, ya que pueden afectar a los enfoques laterales de la unión cráneovertebral. El objetivo del estudio fue determinar la prevalencia de los tipos morfológicos de cóndilos occipitales. Fueron analizados 214 cóndilos de 107 cráneos secos de humanos y la clasificación de los tipos morfológicos fue determinada a partir de los análisis de estudio de imágenes fotográficas digitalizadas. De los 107 cráneos que fueron analizados, 59,8 % eran de sexo masculino y 40,2 % de sexo femenino, cuyas edades comprendidas entre 11 y 91 años con una media de 57.56 años. De un total de 10 tipos morfológicos de los cóndilos occipitales encontrados, más del 50 % eran de tipo ocho, S y anillo. Los cóndilos en forma de “8” y “S” fueron los principales tipos encontrados, en el sexo masculino, la forma en “8” prevaleció en el lado izquierdo, y el tipo morfológico en “S”, en el lado derecho del cráneo. Mientras que en el sexo femenino esos dos tipos tuvieron una equitativa distribución bilateral.

Título: Autoavaliação da comunicação em promotores de justiça em um estado do nordeste, Brasil Autor(es): Sales, Neuza Josina; Castaneda, Daniel Francisco Neyra; Barreto, Íkaro Daniel de Carvalho; Paoliello, Marina; Campanha, Silvia Márcia Andrade Abstract: Purpose: To describe how public prosecutors self-assess their communication approaches and how listeners react to them; to analyze how this relates to gender, age, and work experience. Methods: Descriptive, transversal study. A questionnaire was developed and sent to 126 public prosecutors for completion. Thirty-three completed questionnaires were sent back. The independent variables were gender, age, and number of years of professional experience. The dependent variables were communication self-assessment throughout the years of work, communication parameters used, and listeners’ reactions. A descriptive analyzis and Fisher’s Exact Test was carried out. Results: the sample contained both male and female participants with a median age of 43 years and an average of 20 years of professional experience. Most of the respondents claimed they had experienced demotivation, insecurity, tension, and difficulty when trying to convince listeners. More women than men reported they felt that their communication had worsened throughout their careers. All the women reported they experienced insecurity when speaking in public. One third of the public prosecutors stated they suffered from disorders on their voice. Those respondents aged over 43, experienced greater proportion on voice change than younger ones. In contrast to their younger colleagues, the majority of public prosecutors with more than 20 years of professional experience revealed that they felt insecure when speaking in public. Conclusion: the public prosecutors identified their strong and weak communication parameters. Gender, age, and work experience affect communicative performance.
