Abstract: Although the buffel grass is so important to the productive systems in the semiarid Brazilian studies with this forage are still scarce and diffused, so this experiment was conducted to evaluate the morphogenesis, structural and productive six accessions of buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris L.) belonging to the active germplasm bank (BAG) Embrapa semiarid. The experiment was conducted at the Department of Technology and Social Sciences (DTCS) University of Bahia (UNEB), from December 2008 to January 2009. The experimental design was completely randomized with six accessions of buffel grass (Tanzania, Pusa Giant, Aridus, Buchuma, Iran and Biloela) and five replicates, totaling 30 experimental units. Regarding the results, the accessions differed significantly in most variables, especially in morphogenetic and structural variables. It was observed that the buffel grass provides a mean rate of appearance of one sheet every four days in each tiller, with a lifetime of sheet 17 days, keeping ten per tiller. Although they found morphogenetic and structural differences between accessions of buffel grass they did not affect the production parameters.

Autor(es): Santos, Osmario Marques
Abstract: The aim of this work was to evaluate the technical feasibility of erva-palha (Blainvillea latifolia) biomass as an alternative roughage in the feeding of ruminants. For this purpose, there were measured the agronomic characteristics of the species. The bromatological characteristics of the raw material and the erva-palha silage submitted to pre-drying strategies (0, 24 and 48 hours) were analyzed and evaluated the apparent digestibility of diets containing different levels of substitution (0, 33 66 and 100%) of the bulky corn silage by erva-palha silage offered to sheep. Under the conditions of the present study, it was observed an average height of erva-palha plants of 1.72 meters, population of 458,000 plants per hectare and production of 6,800 kg/ha of dry matter being 1001 kg corresponding to crude protein. The fermentative characteristics varied according to the ensiling time, but there were no differences between the pre-drying treatments. In the evaluation of consumption and apparent digestibility, the treatments with 33 and 66% inclusion of erva-palha silage in the roughage fraction, had apparent digestibility of bromatological components similar to the treatment with corn silage as exclusive roughage. In view of the observed, the use of erva-palha biomass has the potential to integrate diets as part of the fraction of bulky food for ruminants.

Autor(es): Souza, Marcos Felipe dos Santos
Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the physicochemical, microbiological and
lipid oxidation of goat's milk sundae yogurt with added umbu jelly (Spondias tuberosa
Arr.) In 28 days of storage. The experiment was divided into three treatments (0%, 10%
and 20% of umbu jelly (Spondias tuberosa Arr.)), Evaluated in triplicate form, and the
physicochemical characteristics were evaluated by Tukey test a 0.05% and the oxidative
analyzes evaluated by regression test, analyzed by the SAS® statistical program.
Significant difference (P <0.05%) was observed in the physicochemical characteristics
between the treatments. The totals of yoghurt solids with 0% of umbu jelly obtained
lower proportion in relation to the other treatments (0% - 20.87%; 10% 26.28%; 20% -
35.94%), different for the contents. of mineral material, of which, the higher the level of
jelly of umbu the lower the content of mineral matter (0% - 1,0%; 10% - 0,89%; 20% -
0,79%), for the contents of protein and fat there was a higher proportion in the treatment
with 0% compared to the others. For the lactic acid pH and acidity levels, a difference
was presented when compared between the treatments in the storage time. For the
presence of lactic acid bacteria, the levels presented are in accordance with the
minimum parameters that are in the recommended legislation, the same corresponds to
the levels of thermotolerant and total coliforms, as well as the presence of yeast and
filamentous fungi. There was a difference in lipid degradation in the different levels of
umbu jelly addition. According to the analyzes obtained by the TBARS method, a
difference in absorbance was observed between treatments and on different storage days
(0%: 0.71; 10%: 1.39; 20%: 2.08). Goat's milk sundae yogurt with umbu jelly was
widely accepted by consumers through the sensory test, being rated on the hedonic scale
as “very liked” to “extremely liked”, and with purchase interest showing results of
"Would certainly buy."

Título: Energia metabolizável para codornas europeias e seus efeitos sobre o desempenho, características de carcaça e parâmetros bioquímicos no período de 28 a 42 dias
Autor(es): Jesus, Monica Raline Reis de
Abstract: The metabolizable energy stands out for affecting the productive
performance and the quality of the carcass of European quails, in addition to interfering
in the costs of diets. Thus, the objective was to determine the metabolizable energy
requirement (ME) for European quails (Coturnix coturnix coturnix) in the period from 28
to 42 days of age. For this, 420 quails were distributed in completely randomized design,
within five treatments, seven replicates and 12 birds per experimental unit. The treatments
consisted of levels of 2,950, 3,000, 3,050, 3,100 and 3,150 Kcal of ME/ kg in the diet.
Were evaluated the performance, relative weights of viscera and organs, carcass
characteristics, meat quality, body composition and blood parameters of the birds. There
were no differences (P>0.05) for the weight and weight gain of the birds. However, the
feed intake decreased linearly (P<0.01) with the increase of ME in the diet, while feed
efficiency showed a quadratic effect (P<0.01), estimating the requirement at 3,009.4 kcal
ME/kg of diet. The relative weight of the heart and gizzard were not influenced by energy
levels (P>0.05), but viscera and liver relative weight showed quadratic effect (P<0.01),
estimating in 3,133.4 and 3,059.5 kcal ME/kg of diet, respectively. There was linear effect
(P<0.01) for breast yield and color b* (P<0.05) with better results at the level of 2,950
kcal ME/kg of diet. The meat texture showed a linear reduction (P<0.01), with a better
result in 3,150 kcal ME / kg of diet. The body chemical composition of quails, values of
triglycerides, cholesterol and total proteins were not influenced (P>0.05) by the levels of
ME. However, there was quadratic effect (P<0.01) for HDL and LDL, estimating the
energy requirement at 3,111.6; 3,157.4 kcal of ME/kg of diet, respectively, and the VLDL
increased linearly (P<0.01), with better results at the level of 2,950 kcal of ME/kg of diet.
It is concluded that the metabolizable energy requirement for European quails in the
period at 28 to 42 days of age is 3,009.4 kcal ME/kg of diet.
