Autor(es): Nascimento Neto, Josevaldo
Abstract: This research aimed to analyze socio-spatial inequality in the Aracaju Metropolitan Region, resulting from a process of uneven urbanization that fragments space and establishes segregation as an expression of social inequality, the foundation of capitalist society. The study used quantitative and qualitative research, analyzing IBGE data from the last two demographic censuses (2010 and 2022). The data analyzed relate to the conditions of households and residents regarding access to essential services, and the analysis contributed to the interpretation of the reality studied. Graphs, maps, and tables were created, and fieldwork was conducted to photograph the various neighborhoods of Aracaju: Nossa Senhora do Socorro, Barra dos Coqueiros, and São Cristóvão. The data collection and interpretation, landscape observation, and comparative study of household and resident conditions (2010 and 2022) were conducted under a theoretical foundation, based on critical geography studies, which enabled a critical analysis of the object of study. Furthermore, the investigation allowed us to view the socio-spatial segregation of the Aracaju Metropolitan Region as an action of different agents, notably the State in implementing public infrastructure and housing policies. Thus, it was possible to conclude that the urban reality studied in the RMA, regarding socio-spatial segregation, is a result of the dynamics of capitalist society, which shapes the reality of any space to serve the interests of economic, political, and financial groups.</summary>
