Abstract: Nursing professionals face highly stressful working conditions, and this occupational context makes them particularly vulnerable to the development of common mental disorders (CMDs), which negatively impact the quality of care, including quality of work life (QWL). These circumstances have also been inappropriately associated with the use of psychotropic medications as a coping strategy. Therefore, mental illness related to working conditions constitutes a significant public health problem. Thus, this research aimed to analyze the relationship between occupational stress levels, the occurrence of common mental disorders, quality of work life, and the use of psychotropic medications among nursing professionals at the University Hospital of Lagarto-SE. This is an analytical cross-sectional observational study with a quantitative approach. The study population consisted of 74 nursing professionals who provide direct patient care, located in the care sectors of HUL-UFS. This study utilized instruments such as a sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire, the Quality of Work Life Questionnaire - abbreviated version (QWLQ-bref), the Job Stress Scale (adapted version for Portuguese), and the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20). The research followed the bioethical principles of studies with human subjects and was approved by the CEP/UFS. It was observed that 69% of these nursing professionals presented some degree of exposure to stress. Regarding QWL, it was found to be neutral (52.79), with the professional dimension presenting the lowest score (46.47). The prevalence of suspected cases of Common Mental Disorder (CMD), measured by the SRQ-20, was 46%. Spearman's correlation analysis revealed statistically significant relationships between the three instruments used, suggesting a systemic interdependence between the work environment and health outcomes, where high demand was associated with a high prevalence of Common Mental Disorder, and higher levels of mental suffering imply a marked decline in overall Quality of Life. The prevalence of psychotropic medication use among nursing professionals was 27%, with a 72% higher prevalence of mental distress, as well as significant impairment in overall quality of life, and a higher median (Md = 17.0) in the Demand dimension within the context of occupational stress. Conversely, social support proved to be the greatest protective factor, where those who feel supported by their team/supervisor have better mental health and a higher quality of life. It is concluded from the findings of this research that the work context exerts a determining influence on the mental illness of the nursing professionals investigated, pointing to the need for collective and structural interventions involving institutional prevention policies, strengthening support networks, reorganization of work, and promotion of safer work environments.

Abstract: Introduction: Women engaged in artisanal fishing constitute a socially and economically vulnerable population in Brazil in which the magnitude of food insecurity remains poorly documented. Objective: This study assessed the prevalence of food insecurity, its associated socioeconomic determinants, and the nutritional status of women engaged in artisanal fishing in the Lower São Francisco region, Northeastern Brazil. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 127 women. Food insecurity was measured using the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale (EBIA), and anthropometric indicators included body mass index (BMI) and markers of central adiposity: waist circumference and waist-to-height ratio. Associations with moderate to-severe food insecurity were examined using Poisson regression with robust variance. Results: The overall prevalence of food insecurity was 89.0% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 82.2–93.4), distributed as 36.2% mild, 29.1% moderate, and 23.6% severe. Low household income was independently associated with moderate-to-severe food insecurity (adjusted prevalence ratio [aPR]: 1.55; 95% CI: 1.08–2.21; p = 0.016), as was residence in households with eight or more members (aPR: 1.95; 95% CI: 1.23–3.12; p = 0.005). Conclusion: Excess weight and central adiposity were highly prevalent, indicating elevated cardiovascular risk; however, anthropometric indicators were not associated with food insecurity severity. Women artisanal fishers in this rural territory experience extremely high levels of food insecurity, driven primarily by income insufficiency and household resource constraints, coexisting with substantial metabolic vulnerability.

Abstract: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive study with a quantitative approach aimed at evaluating the oral health status and oral health practices, as well as the level of maternal and child oral health knowledge among pregnant women receiving care through Primary Health Care services in the municipality of Simão Dias, Sergipe, Brazil. To this end, a questionnaire was administered, and a clinical oral examination was performed by a properly trained and calibrated examiner. Statistical analysis comprised descriptive and inferential analyses. The mean age of the participants was 26.14 years. Regarding oral health practices, a heterogeneous pattern was observed, characterized by an adequate frequency of toothbrushing, but low daily use of dental floss, frequent consumption of sugary foods, and still limited access to dental care during pregnancy. The level of knowledge regarding oral health during pregnancy was considered moderate to high. The lowest percentage of correct responses was related to knowledge of the term *prenatal dental care* and the understanding that oral health problems during pregnancy should not be regarded as normal conditions. Knowledge of oral health in early childhood was predominantly moderate. Higher percentages of correct responses were observed for topics frequently addressed within the family environment and health services. However, important gaps were identified in specific preventive aspects, including the appropriate use of fluoride, the recommended timing of the first dental visit, the maternal habit of blowing on or tasting food using the same spoon as the child, the relationship between antibiotic use and dental caries, and the association between nighttime bottle-feeding and early childhood caries. The Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMFT) index showed a mean value of 6.9, indicating a moderate cumulative experience of dental caries. The filled (3.67) and missing (2.06) components contributed the most to the index, whereas the decayed component showed the lowest contribution (1.17). The PUFA index, which assessed the severity of untreated dental caries lesions, presented a mean value of 0.30, indicating a low frequency of the clinical consequences of dental caries. The prevalence of PUFA in the sample was 13.88%, with pulpal involvement being the predominant condition (83.33%). Regarding the Community Periodontal Index (CPI), a low frequency of healthy periodontal status (2.0%) and a predominance of shallow periodontal pockets (46.3%) were observed. When comparing pregnant women assisted by health teams with and without a dentist, no statistically significant differences were found regarding oral health practices, the level of maternal and child oral health knowledge, or clinical oral health status. Therefore, although the participants demonstrated predominantly moderate levels of oral health knowledge, important gaps related to the prevention of oral diseases during pregnancy and early childhood were identified. Furthermore, the high cumulative experience of dental caries and the predominance of periodontal alterations highlight the need to expand oral health education and dental care actions within
the context of prenatal care.

Abstract: Introduction: Transgender individuals present high levels of body image dissatisfaction and comprise a risk group for developing eating disorders (ED). Objective: To evaluate the levels of body image satisfaction and the risk of developing eating disorders among transgender people followed at a specialized gender-affirming care service. Methodology: This is a prospective longitudinal study conducted at the Transgender Outpatient Clinic of the University Hospital of Lagarto between January and November 2025. Transgender individuals aged 18 to 60 years were included in the research. Participants were evaluated at two distinct moments: at admission (T1) and after six months (T2). In the first moment, sociodemographic and clinical data were collected, alongside the assessment of body image satisfaction, ED risk, and gender incongruence levels. In the second phase, the instruments assessing body image satisfaction, ED risk, and gender incongruence were reapplied. Data analysis was performed using RStudio and JASP softwares. Non-parametric tests were conducted to evaluate correlations or associations between variables. A significance level of 0.05 was adopted. Results: At T1, 28 users participated in the study, and 21 at T2. Participants had a median age of 24.5 (IQR = 6.5) years, with the majority consisting of trans men (60.7%; n = 17). Regarding the assessment of body image satisfaction, ED risk, and gender incongruence at both times, it was observed that only 21.4% (n = 6) of the interviewees were satisfied with their body image at T1 and 9.5% (n = 2) at T2; 28.6% (n = 8) presented a risk for developing eating disorders at T1 and 33.3% (n = 7) at T2; and 67.9% (n = 19) showed high levels of gender incongruence at T1 and 66.7% (n = 14) at T2. Body image satisfaction was associated with gender incongruence at both evaluated moments (T1: p = 0.002 and T2: p = 0.009). Regarding potential factors related to body image satisfaction and ED risk, the following were observed at admission: a negative correlation between the weight concern domain and BMI (r = -0.475; p = 0.011); a positive correlation between the dieting domain and BMI (r = 0.583; p = 0.001); a negative correlation between oral control and BMI (r = -0.466; p = 0.012); and an association between the appearance domain and hormone therapy (p = 0.017). On the other hand, the appearance domain showed a negative correlation with gender incongruence at both times (T1: r = -0.662; p = 0.001; T2: r = -0.478; p = 0.028). Conclusion: The majority of the service users who participated in the study present low levels of body image satisfaction, an increased risk for developing eating disorders, and high levels of gender incongruence. Body image dissatisfaction was associated with higher levels of gender incongruence at both times, and elevated BMI and greater gender incongruence levels appear to negatively influence body image perception and ED risk. However, hormone therapy seems to act as a protective factor for body image satisfaction.
