Abstract: The objective of the present study was to fit regression models to the measured leaf area in eucalyptus forests and vegetation indices derived from Landsat-5 TM images. The study was carried out in commercial plantations located in the basin of the Doce River, Minas Gerais state,&#xD;
between 2008 and 2011. Leaf area was measured in the field, non-destructively, with the LAI-2000&#xD;
device. The following indices were used: Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Soil&#xD;
Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI), and Simple Ratio (SR). The best model was adjusted from&#xD;
the NDVI, with a correlation coefficient of 0.73 and root mean square error of 0.37 m² m–2&#xD;
(19%). We conclude that the leaf area index can be estimated by the regression models fit to the&#xD;
vegetation indices derived from the Landsat - 5 TM images.</description>

Abstract: Eggplant has a nutritional, social and economic importance in the world, being grown and&#xD;
marketed in several countries, normally in protected environment. Its production, as a lot of&#xD;
crops, is dependent on factors such as water, light and nutrients. Thus, it was proposed with&#xD;
this study to evaluate leaf gas exchange, chlorophyll fluorescence and leaf temperature in&#xD;
eggplant grown in greenhouse under different irrigations levels. The study was accomplished&#xD;
in a greenhouse, using a completely randomized experimental design with five treatments&#xD;
and eight replications, totaling 40 experimental units. The treatments were consisted of five&#xD;
irrigation depths: 33, 66, 100, 133 and 166% of ETc, which amounted to 133, 266, 403, 536,&#xD;
669 mm cycle-1, respectively. Photosynthetic rate of eggplant increases with the addition&#xD;
of water depth. The higher values of gas exchange (A, E, gs, Ci, EiUA e EiC) in eggplants,&#xD;
in general, were observed in irrigation, water depths estimated between 123,52 and 166%&#xD;
ETc were used. The chlorophyll fluorescence increased with increasing water depths and&#xD;
leaf temperature decreased with the increase in water depth.</description>

Abstract: A viticultura é uma atividade agrícola marcante no semiárido do Nordeste brasileiro, sendo a qualidade&#xD;
e a facilidade de propagação das videiras importante neste contexto. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o uso do&#xD;
ácido 2,4-Diclorofenoxiacético (2,4-D) como forma alternativa para o ácido indolilbutírico (AIB) no enraizamento&#xD;
de estacas de porta-enxertos de videira. Para isso, foi conduzido um experimento à Universidade Federal de&#xD;
Sergipe (São Cristóvão-SE), de janeiro a março de 2010, com estacas de porta-enxertos ‘IAC-766’, ‘IAC-572’ e&#xD;
‘Paulsen 1103’ tratadas com 2,4-D e AIB, nas concentrações de 0; 1.000; 2.000 e 3.000 mg L-1, por 5 segundos, e,&#xD;
posteriormente, plantadas em canteiros com areia lavada. Aos 56 dias após o plantio, avaliaram-se as porcentagens&#xD;
de estacas enraizadas, brotadas, com calo e mortas, número médio de raízes e comprimento médio de raízes das&#xD;
estacas enraizadas. Os resultados demonstraram que o 2,4-D não supera o efeito do AIB quanto às características&#xD;
necessárias para o processo de enraizamento das estacas dos porta-enxertos de videira. Os porta-enxertos de&#xD;
videira demonstraram potencial de propagação por estaquia de ramos sem a necessidade de aplicação de auxina.&#xD;
Observou-se que as auxinas em concentrações mais elevadas tornam-se prejudiciais ao enraizamento das estacas.</description>
