Abstract: After having her right leg amputated in 2010, British adolescent Danielle Bradshaw began to practice parasport athletics. Due to excessive training, her left leg was overloaded, which caused several injuries that reduced her performance. Therefore, Bradshaw saw the amputation of her left leg as a way for her dream of competing in a Paralympics to come true: This paper discusses the problem of using technology in sports and its ramifications in ontological and axiological debates.; En 2010, cuando le amputaron la pierna derecha, la adolescente británica Danielle Bradshaw comienza a practicar atletismo paradeportivo.

Abstract: It was our objective to evaluate the anthropometric variables and the physical qualities in girls with menarche and withoutmenarche from public school of Tucuruí-PA, with11to12years old. Ninety-eight girlsaged 11 and 105 aged 12 yearswereevaluated girls and divided into two groups: girls withmenarche and girls without menarche. Weight and height, body mass index (BMI), body composition of two skinfolds (triceps and subscapular)were registered. Also, were assessedthe performance inshuttleRun, horizontal jump, 1609 metersrunning,a 30 meters’sprint run and a 3kg medicine ball throwing. After normality testingwith the Kolmogorov Smirnov a ttest for independent sampleswas computed or theMann-Whitney test. Alpha value was set at0.05. All calculations were computedusing SPSS for Windows 15.0. It wasfound significant differences in body mass (44.05 and 37.85 kg) and height (1.48 and 1.42m)between groupsamong 11 years old girls. Inthe12 yearsold girlsno significant differences were found between groupsin relation to height (1.51 and 1.44m), BMI (19.86 and 18.49 kg/m2), horizontal jump(135.49 and 129.40cm), medicine ball throwing(238.29 and 207.42cm), 1.609 metersrunning(11.30 and 10.37m) and predicted VO2max (33.67 and 36.055 ml.kg-1.min-1). Girlswith menstrual cycle had higher values than theircounterpartsin anthropometric measurements and in the medicine ball throwing.

Abstract: Introduction: Prolonged administration of dexamethasone promotes deleterious changes in the metabolism of
carbohydrates. Objective: To evaluate the effects of high intensity resistance training on insulin sensibility, glucose
tolerance, and muscle strength in rats submitted to chronic use of dexamethasone. Methods: Forty males rats were
randomly divided into four groups: 1) Control Sedentary (CS); 2) Control Trained (CT); 3) Dexamethasone Sedentary
(DS) and 4) Dexamethasone Trained (DT). Resistance training was conducted in squat apparatus composed of
three series, 10 repetitions, with an intensity of 75% of 1 RM for four weeks. Concurrently, the DS and DT groups
received daily intraperitoneal dexamethasone (0.2 g/kg) and the CS and CT groups received only saline (0.9%). At
the end of the protocol, glucose tolerance, insulin sensibility and maximum force tests were conducted. Results:
In the trained groups (CT e DT) was found an increased muscle strength of 14.78% and 36.87%, respectively,
with no significant gain in sedentary groups. In the glucose tolerance test, the trained groups (CT e DT) showed
attenuated ranges of plasma glucose when compared to sedentary groups (CS and DS). In insulin sensibility
test, the DT group showed lower area under the curve in relation to the DS group. Conclusion: The high intensity
resistance exercise improved insulin sensibility, glucose tolerance and increased muscle strength in rats submitted
Control Entrenado (CE) 3); Dexametasona Sedentario (DS); 4) Dexametasona Entrenado (DE).
