Título: A divulgação de fake news durante a catástrofe climática no Rio Grande do Sul em 2024 : uma análise retórica de argumentos e falácias
Autor(es): Silveira, Maria Lays Santos
Abstract: Fake news is a term that has been circulating in the daily lives of thousands of people, especially in journalistic environments and on social media. With this in mind, and in light of studies in argumentation and rhetoric, this work takes as its object of analysis the report entitled “Destroyed donations; the death of Caramelo and more: 20 fake news about Rio Grande do Sul,” published by the digital newspaper Metrópoles. The report brings together twenty false news items, ten of which were produced in partnership with the website Boatos.org.Considering the problems that false news, together with fallacious arguments, can generate, the main objective of this study is specifically focused on analyzing the twenty fake news items reported. The specific objectives consist of classifying the types of fallacies and arguments through rhetorical
studies. Therefore, a qualitative-interpretative research approach was used as a specific methodological framework. Although the news items are portrayed in a situation of climate crisis, concepts of denialist bias were not addressed. As theoretical foundation, the authors Marcuschi (2008), Lage (1987), Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca (2005), Benassi (2007), Costa (2008), Mateus (2018), and Ferreira (2010) were used. This study contributes to the classification and understanding of the types of fallacies and arguments present in the twenty pieces of fake news, as well as to reflecting on the care that should be taken when sharing news without verifying it on social media or within one’s own social circle.

Abstract: This research aimed to analyze socio-spatial inequality in the Aracaju Metropolitan Region, resulting from a process of uneven urbanization that fragments space and establishes segregation as an expression of social inequality, the foundation of capitalist society. The study used quantitative and qualitative research, analyzing IBGE data from the last two demographic censuses (2010 and 2022). The data analyzed relate to the conditions of households and residents regarding access to essential services, and the analysis contributed to the interpretation of the reality studied. Graphs, maps, and tables were created, and fieldwork was conducted to photograph the various neighborhoods of Aracaju: Nossa Senhora do Socorro, Barra dos Coqueiros, and São Cristóvão. The data collection and interpretation, landscape observation, and comparative study of household and resident conditions (2010 and 2022) were conducted under a theoretical foundation, based on critical geography studies, which enabled a critical analysis of the object of study. Furthermore, the investigation allowed us to view the socio-spatial segregation of the Aracaju Metropolitan Region as an action of different agents, notably the State in implementing public infrastructure and housing policies. Thus, it was possible to conclude that the urban reality studied in the RMA, regarding socio-spatial segregation, is a result of the dynamics of capitalist society, which shapes the reality of any space to serve the interests of economic, political, and financial groups.

Abstract: This study examines high school students’ relationship with YouTube, one of the major Digital Information and Communication Technologies (DICTs), in the learning of Biology. The study aims to understand students’ perceptions of watching video lessons during their scientific education, which is otherwise delivered face-to-face by Biology teachers. In light of this aim, we investigated the criteria and motivations that lead students to access YouTube. Participants were students from Colégio Estadual Eduardo Silveira, in the municipality of Itabaiana, Sergipe, Brazil. One main finding is that memorization to answer school exams is the primary motivation for consuming vídeo lessons. Students report a stronger preference for video lessons than for the classes taught by their teachers in the regular in-person course. One reason mentioned is that teachers who produce video lessons present a more straightforward line of reasoning, consistent with the intentionality of explanation, something like “getting straight to the point.” Students also consider the vocabulary used in video lessons to be easier to understand, suggesting that they value the effort involved in didactic transposition (i.e., adapting knowledge for teaching). Students highlight the use of visual and audio resources as supports that help them stay attentive to the explanations offered in video lessons. Another attribute of video lessons, used as a consumption criterion, is their short duration, which is also consistent with the criterion of explanatory intentionality. The findings also indicate that students trust YouTube’s recommendation algorithm when choosing vídeo lessons and treat the number of comments on a video as an indicator of quality. While the education literature reports gains in autonomous learning through active uses of YouTube, the students investigated in this study only consume video lessons; they do not produce them. Finally, drawing on literature on learning theories and media education, we suggest that basic-education teachers act as content curators in their classes, that is, they should evaluate video lessons used in face-to-face teaching and guide students in creating their own video lessons, with a view to fostering active and autonomous learning.

A representação da ansiedade como recurso retórico na animação Divertida Mente 2

Abstract: This paper analyzes the rhetorical construction of the character Anxiety in the Animation Inside Out 2, based on Aristotelian rhetoric, focusing on the means of persuasion pathos and the mobilization of passions. Initially, classical, modern, and visual rhetoric are discussed, understood as a persuasive practice that prioritizes verbal discourse and extends to audiovisual languages. Next, the means of persuasion ethos, logos, and pathos are presented, highlighting the central role of emotions in the construction of discourse. Based on Aristotle, Meyer, Amossy, and Figueiredo, passions are understood as psychophysical and cognitive states that influence judgments and actions. The methodology adopted is qualitative and interpretative, based on bibliographic research and corpus analysis. The analysis demonstrates that the character Anxiety initially mobilizes pathos through fear and shame, influencing Riley's identity and behavior, and later through compassion, allowing the character's emotional reconfiguration. It is concluded that the narrative highlights the relevance of pathos as a central element of persuasion and meaning-making in contemporary audiovisual narratives.
