A representação histórica-imagética do Barco de Fogo na identidade estanciana : (2014-2024)

Título: A representação histórica-imagética do Barco de Fogo na identidade estanciana : (2014-2024)
Autor(es): Santos, Isaac Conceição Nery
Abstract: The investigation addresses the Barco de Fogo of Estância (SE), originating in the 1940s and 1950s, focusing on its evolution in the forms of historical‑imagetic dissemination between 2014 and 2024. The research is grounded in the dialogue between memory, social representations, and cultural manifestations in order to understand transformations and continuities within local identity. The general objective is to analyze how the Barco de Fogo has constructed a historical‑imagetic representation that has become consolidated as a cultural and historical symbol of Estância. The study is justified by the scarcity of historical research on the topic and by the academic relevance of documenting how representations are produced and disseminated in society, considering the institutionalization and spectacularization of the June festivities. The hypothesis is that the imagetic construction of Estância’s intangible heritage is based on affective relations that connect memories to a sense of belonging, supported by foundational figures such as Chico Surdo. The sources include annual posters and banners referencing the Barco de Fogo, collected from municipal archives and social media. The theoretical framework articulates the notion of institutional memory as a dynamic and unfinished process (Thiesen, 2023). The research adopts a qualitative methodology, with emphasis on imagetic analysis grounded in the principles of iconology (Vicente, 2008) and in the relationship between institutional narratives and broader social dynamics.

Abstract: The Brazilian redemocratization of 1945, marked by the fall of the Estado Novo and the return to a democratic regime, promoted the resurgence of political parties and public debate in the country. However, this process did not occur uniformly across all regions, displaying significant local specificities. In the state of Sergipe, the political landscape between the late 1940s and the early 1950s was characterized by a still strongly authoritarian environment and marked by arbitrary political practices, despite the national context of democratic opening. This work analyzes the dynamics of party politics during this period in Sergipe, considering the tensions between the advancement of democratic institutions and the persistence of personalist and oligarchic power structures. The methodology used was based on the documentary analysis of newspapers from the period, records from the Judicial Power Archive of Sergipe, in addition to the theoretical support from fundamental bibliographic works on the period, with emphasis on Skidmore (1982), Dantas (1989), Schwarcz and Starling (2018), and Dantas (2022). From these materials, the persistence of exclusionary political practices was identified, revealing the fragility of democratic institutionalization in the Sergipe context tied to the national scenario. It is concluded, therefore, that the redemocratization, although significant in legal and institutional terms, was asymmetrically experienced, with Sergipe being an example of the complexity and limits of this historical process.

A Província de Sergipe retratada na Imprensa da Corte (1831-1840)

Título: A Província de Sergipe retratada na Imprensa da Corte (1831-1840)
Autor(es): Batista, Regina da Silva
Abstract: This article analyzes the representation of the province of Sergipe in the press of the Court of Rio de Janeiro during the Regency period (1831–1840). The study is grounded in New Political History and the history of written culture, utilizing René Rémond's concepts of "the political" and Roger Chartier's notion of "representation" to understand newspapers not merely as sources of information, but as arenas for dispute and the construction of social realities. The research maps mentions of the province in the periodicals Sete d’Abril (moderate liberal orientation) and Diário do Rio de Janeiro (informative and conservative profile), investigating how Sergipe—a unit recently emancipated from Bahia—was made visible in the public debate of the imperial capital. The methodology consisted of a quanti-qualitative survey in the Digital Newspaper Library of the National Library of Brazil, followed by systematic cataloging using Zotero software. Preliminary results indicate that Sergipe's image at the Court was shaped by thematic axes involving public administration, local power struggles—such as the Santo Amaro Revolt and the actions of the "Rapinas" and "Camundongos" parties—and the dynamics of the sugar economy. The study concludes that the press in Rio de Janeiro acted as a key element in integrating Sergipe into the national political landscape, filtering local tensions through the lens of maintaining order and the unity of the Empire.
