Para além da catástrofe : um abalo épico na obra Esta pobrecita tierra

Título: Para além da catástrofe : um abalo épico na obra Esta pobrecita tierra
Autor(es): Souza, Allana Santana
Abstract: This research aims to analyze one of the works of contemporary author Juany Rojas: Esta Pobrecita Tierra, which presents the vision of a witness to the earthquake followed by tsunamis that occurred in Chile in February 2010. To carry out this study, the contributions of Goyet (2019), Ramalho (2017, 2020, 2022), Santos (2021) and Silva (2022) in order to analyze Rojas' work from an epic perspective, while for the geographical and historical contextualization, the works of Contreras were considered ; Winkcler, (2013), Aravena; Catalan; Guerra (2010), Leiva; Quintana (2010), Villagrán; Reyes; Páez (2014), Barrientos (2010), Leyton; Ruiz; Sepúlveda (2010), González (2012) and Pereira (2024). The hypothesis that guides the approach is that, in Esta Pobrecita Tierra, Rojas uses epic resources to build the epic trajectory of the Chilean nation in the face of what happened on February 27, 2010. In this sense, the main objectives of this work are: to investigate the elements of epic genre present in the work and understand how they contribute to the construction of the narrative. The method used was inductive and the research approach is both qualitative, considering that the epic elements present in the work were surveyed and studied, namely: epic matter, epic heroism, double instance of enunciation, epic proposition and division into corners, as well as quantitative, as it observes the repetition of these elements in the work.

A deslateralização do /ʎ/ em perspectiva sociolinguística : percepção e atitudes linguísticas

Título: A deslateralização do /ʎ/ em perspectiva sociolinguística : percepção e atitudes linguísticas
Autor(es): Santos, Hellem Monique Vieira dos
Abstract: This research is situated within the field of Variationist Sociolinguistics, based on the assumption that language is a dynamic social phenomenon marked by variations that carry symbolic values. The study investigated the delateralization of the phoneme /ʎ/, represented by the digraph “lh,” which is often realized as [j] in words such as mulher > muié and vermelho > vermeio, a variant associated with social stigma in Brazilian Portuguese. The objective was to analyze the perception and social evaluation of this phenomenon among speakers from different social backgrounds. A qualitative and quantitative approach was adopted through field research conducted in Pedra Mole, Sergipe, involving 48 participants. Data collection was carried out through a perceptual experiment using auditory stimuli and semi-structured interviews. The results confirmed trends already identified in sociolinguistic literature, highlighting the preference for the lateralized variant [ʎ], associated with prestigie and correctness, while the variant [j] was linked to informality and perceived inadequacy. It is concluded that the delateralization of /ʎ/ functions as a social marker and reinforces stereotype, emphasizing the need for pedagogical practices that, while teaching prestigious forms, also value linguistic diversity and combat linguistic prejudice.

Abstract: This research investigates the capital sin of Gluttony in the works A Divina Comédia, by classicist writer Dante Alighieri, and O Clube dos Anjos, by contemporary Brazilian Luís Fernando Veríssimo, in order to outline an analysis of the profile of the aforementioned sin in literature. In addition to literary works, the research presents theoretical references from comparative literature and literary criticism that can provide the basis for an accurate analysis of the topic. The initial hypothesis that gave rise to this research is that the imagery linked to capital sins, in this case, especially Gluttony, was transformed over time, from the Renaissance to Contemporary times. The basic methodology used to analyze the themes was the individual analysis of the two works and the comparative study of both, for the study of sin and the verification of a possible change in social mentality over time, always in the light of theoretical references cited. This work makes a notable contribution to literary studies by investigating, more specifically, Gluttony in literature and, more broadly, the wonderful Plan of the Epic Genre.

Abstract: This paper analyzes the novel Vidas Secas (1938), by Graciliano Ramos (1892–1953), and the film adaptation directed by Nelson Pereira dos Santos (1928-2018), released in 1963. The study aimed to investigate how narrative, thematic, and aesthetic elements of the literary work are transposed into cinematic language, considering the specificities of each medium and the creative choices involved in the adaptation process. Initially, the work presents as its theoretical basis adaptation studies, such as those by Linda Hutcheon (2011), Robert Stam (2006), and Hattnher (2010), which problematize the notion of fidelity and defend adaptation as na interpretative, intertextual, and intermedial process. From these contributions, it is understood that adaptation should not be evaluated solely by the criterion of fidelity to the source text, but as an autonomous form of artistic recreation, capable of producing new meanings from the dialogue between different sign systems. Finally, the comparative analysis between the novel and the film shows that the cinematic adaptation preserves the spirit of the literary work by translating into images the aridity of the backlands, the precariousness of the lives of the migrants, and the social oppression suffered by the characters. Resources such as the use of silence, natural light, static framing, and naturalistic acting function as cinematic strategies that re-signify the literary narrative without emptying its social and human content.
