Constitute specific objectives: to outline the informational profile of inmates as users of information; raise the information typology used by them and how to obtain information and identify the sources of information considered essential; contextualize the prison complex library on search behavior information of convicts; verify the information search strategies adopted by convicts. We used a descriptive methodology, and the data were collected through a questionnaire administered to a sample of 30 users who use the library. It was found that most users have not finished elementary school and seek and use with frequênca the information in the library, also considering these activities very important. The book was considered the most used material, and this, along with the newspapers, are the sources of information despised by them. The way to obtain the documents they need is done mostly through bibliographic survey conducted by library staff and on the other hand, when they find the desired information, prefer to use friends who do not use the library. It has the general objective to investigate the origins of Information Science in Brazil and in France, its history, evolution and consolidation, their specificities and applicability as science that seeks to solve the problems of information in the social context. It assumes that the relationship between the two countries in matters of information and its flow, with special emphasis on mediation of information and the appropriation of knowledge, cut across in the research developed by the members of MUSSI network of French-Brazilians researchers. The methodology used was bibliographic and documentary research. The research is a result from a sandwich doctoral internship developed in partnership between the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil, and the Université Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, France. It was observed that, despite the different employment statuses, there are important correlations between information workers from both countries to point to the confluence of Information Officer competencies inserted in the professional competencies of Brazilian information. 2015-10-01T00:00:00Z
