Abstract: This article aims to examine the debate over immigration to Sergipe from the late 19th&#xD;
century into the 20th century. The research was based on newspapers and a collection of laws. In conclusion it was observed that, although without the evidence of a single concrete fact, immigration had been the reason for laws and the subject of discourses that associated it somehow with the economic modernization of Sergipe.</description>

Abstract: This article aims to analyze the contributions of the library of the Catholic Faculty of Philosophy of Sergipe (FCFSE) to the constitution of higher education in Sergipe in the period from 1951 to 1968, which corresponds respectively to the creation of the institution and its incorporation into the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS). To achieve this objective, we used interviews with five graduates of the Geography and History course at FCFSE, as well as with two retired UFS librarians who worked in the aforementioned information unit of the aforementioned college. Gradually, the FCFSE library became a relevant space, with the possibility not only of consulting and borrowing its books, but also of study. The testimonies listed here demonstrate this gradual constitution that included purchases, donations and even acquisitions of books by professors inside and outside Brazil. These are works that contributed to teacher training and passed from generation to generation in the consolidation of higher education in Sergipe, from FCFSE to UFS.</description>

Abstract: This&#xD;
paper is a critical appreciation of the overall schooling rate, school flow, student performance,&#xD;
truancy, repeat years and other indicators used as parameters for assessing the quality of Brazilian&#xD;
education. This is essay material about the fact that the cost of making school enrollment universal&#xD;
led to a perceptible drop in student performance. Nevertheless, the work shows that quality&#xD;
must be considered in terms that are represented by the social gains achieved as a result of the&#xD;
universilization of education and not only from the marks obtained in tests. Conceptual problems&#xD;
are revealed, such as those relating to the new Basic Education Development Index (primary and&#xD;
secondary education), which is used in Brazil for formulating public policies in order to improve&#xD;
its position in the international education ranking.</description>

Abstract: The purpose of this article is analyzing class reports as a source for the history of secondary education, more precisely, for the History of the “subjects of History”, namely: History of Brazil, America and General, from the Ginásio Estadual de Itabaiana, between 1951 to 1968. To achieve this goal, at first, we present a brief discussion on the history of school subjects. Following that, we deal with aspects of the History of secondary education in Sergipe and the Ginásio Estadual de Itabaiana, later, we present elements of the materiality of the class reports located in the School Archive of the current Colégio Estadual Murilo Braga, as well as some problematizations for working with such sources in the studies of the History of Education.</description>
