Título: Os ingênuos de Sant’Ana : morte, escravidão e liberdade na Vila de Simão Dias (décadas de 1870 e 1880)
Autor(es): Trindade, Sarah Aline dos Reis Rabelo
Abstract: This article seeks to analyze unexplored aspects of slavery in Simão Dias, as well as to identify the impacts of the Free Womb Law of 1871 on the lives of the enslaved population in the town. Adopting a quantitative-qualitative approach, this study is grounded in the analysis of nineteenth-century documents, such as periodicals, death records, and the 1872 General Census of the Empire. From these sources, data and information were extracted to outline aspects of the daily lives of the enslaved in Simão Dias. Such elements were crucial in identifying and confronting silencing strategies used in the invisibilization of the slavery past over the years. Thus, problematizing these discourses, alongside documentary analysis, enables the recovery of these individuals' agency within the identity of Simão Dias.

Título: A voz do Estado nacional nas páginas de A Manhã : propaganda, trabalhismo e imprensa no Estado Novo (1943–1945)
Autor(es): Rodrigues, Kamilly Dantas
Abstract: This article analyzes how the newspaper A Manhã was used by the Getúlio Vargas government as an instrument of political propaganda during the Estado Novo, between 1943 and 1945. The research investigates how the periodical contributed to the construction of the laborist ideology and to the dissemination of Vargas's image as a protector of workers. Grounded in social history and a qualitative approach, the study uses editions of the newspaper as its primary source, examining discourses, images, and news related to the world of work. The analysis demonstrates that the periodical disseminated an idealized representation of the worker associated with the values of discipline, patriotism, and collaboration with the State while simultaneously silencing labor conflicts and demands. It is concluded that A Manhã played an important role in the legitimation of the Estado Novo and in the consolidation of Laborism as part of the Vargas political project.
