It presents the experiences of student Victor Jeferson Santos Carvalho during his mandatory supervised internship (ESO) in the areas of clinical medicine and surgery of large animals, among others. These activities were developed at Fertvet Consultoria Veterinária LTDA, at the Garan huns Bovine Clinic – UFRPE, and at the Horse Hospital. The selected topic for in-depth study was a clinical case of enterolith in the transverse colon of a horse, followed at the Horse Hospital, given that it is an area of interest to me. Managing the case required specific knowledge to avoid secondary complications. The actions performed included clinical care of the patient, as well as nasogastric intubation, clinical examinations, abdominal ultrasound (flash scan), and blood count. The horse showed excellent post-surgical recovery, with the return of bowel function and absence of pain. No signs of infection were observed, demonstrating effective healing. Vital signs remained within normal limits, consolidating a favorable prognosis after hospital discharge. The experience gained in this clinical case was enriching, highlighting the relevance of specific skills in gastroenterology for effective and safe clinical practice.
