Abstract

Introduction: Chronic pelvic pain is a pelvic pain that lasts at least six months and is of sufficient severity to interfere with the patient's routine. This study aims to determine the degree of optimism and response to treatment of patients with chronic pelvic pain. Methods: prospective cohort study in patients from the gynecology outpatient clinic of the University Hospital of the Federal University of Sergipe. Patients initially answered questions on an optimism scale already with cross-cultural validation, TOV-R and a questionnaire on social and sexual data. These patients were evaluated at time zero and three more times after treatment response. Results: Of the 132 patients interviewed, 67 (50.7%) performed four TOV evaluations. Significant association was observed, with p <0.05 in all the following variables: family income with TOV2 of 16.9 ± 3.1; education with TOV1 16.0 ± 3.3; Regular menstrual cycle with TOV2 of 15.7 ± 3.2; sexarche with TOV2 16.1 ± 3.2; contraceptive with TOV 3 16.2 ± 3.8 and TOV4 16.3 ± 3.7; Satisfaction at first sexual intercourse TOV1 16.4 ± 3.5, TOV2 16.4 ± 3.4 and TOV3 16.6 ± 4.0; Libido with TOV1 16.1 ± 3.0 and TOV4 16.3 ± 3.3; Sexual abuse with TOV 3 14.3 ± 3.3 and TOV4 13.8 ± 3.8; Licit drugs with TOV 4 15.7 ± 3.8; Sleep with TOV1 16.1 ± 3.3 and TOV4 16.2 ± 3.7; Sleep medication with TOV2 13.6 ± 2.9 and TOV4 13.1 ± 3.9; Improvement of the condition with TOV 3 16.4 ± 3.7 and TOV4 16.5 ± 3.6; improvement with treatment: 70 (81.4) with orgasm and 74 (86.0) without sexual abuse. Conclusion: Most patients underwent treatment and there was an association between a higher degree of optimism and improvement in their condition.
