A casa como o espaço de constituição de identidade: a figura feminina no conto "a casa de meus sonhos" de Edna O'Brien

Abstract

This work aims to propound my reflections about the short story The House of My Dreams by the author Edna o’Brien. The tale brings the story of a woman that when she says goodbye to the house she revisits its rooms that remind her the events and people with whom she shared them. The examination of the short story in which the house is the space where the plot unfolds developed in me the desire to know the processes - discursive and imagetic - by which, subjectively, the relationship of woman with space influences the process of constitution of her identity, and sometimes the spaces in the house can be confused with the own woman brought in the short story. I used the Gaston Bachelard theory which it considers the space of the house as a shelter of subject constitution through reverie. As the woman says goodbye to the house her relationship with her rooms becomes evident.
