O papel da beleza na poesia modernista Norte-americana

Abstract

This article addresses the concept of Beauty in Greek antiquity and modernity in the poem “In a station of metro”, by the modernist writer Ezra Pound. The analysis involves authors who helped support the discussion on the subject, such as: Nougué (2010); Santos (2017), among others, who bring in their reflections authors such as: Baudelaire, Immanuel Kant; Thomas Aquinas, as well as the philosophers Aristotle and Plato. This study presents a brief analysis of the cited poem, with the general objective of seeking a possible interpretation of the poem and its relationship with the concept studied here, from the perspective of the modernist view of Beauty and the specific characteristics of the historical and social context of the postwar United States. This is bibliographic research (GIL, 2010) of qualitative nature. The research is justified by its theoretical relevance, because through the bibliographic review, we understand that it is possible to observe the permanence of beauty as an object of study, opening paths for other applications and analyses.
