| Resumo : | Janelle Monáe influenciou uma geração com suas histórias sobre andróides em distopias futuristas. O objetivo deste trabalho, portanto, é analisar uma dessas obras, o filme musical que acompanha seu quarto álbum de estúdio, Dirty Computer. Para isso, estudaremos o contexto do surgimento do movimento Afrofuturista, englobando os conceitos de colonialismo, apagamento cultural e altericídio. Além disso, evidenciaremos as características artísticas do álbum visual, observando como ele é utilizado por Monáe para combinar elementos musicais e visuais em função da criação de um universo futurista. Por fim, a análise visual, musical e lírica permite entender como a cantora questiona as estruturas de opressão contemporâneas e aborda temas como a sexualidade e a igualdade de gênero e raça. |
| Abstract: | Janelle Monáe has influenced a generation with her stories of androids in futuristic dystopias. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to analyze one of these works, the musical film accompanying her fourth studio album, Dirty Computer. To achieve this, we will delve into the context of the emergence of the Afrofuturist movement, encompassing concepts of colonialism, cultural erasure, and altericide. Furthermore, we will highlight the artistic characteristics of the visual album, examining how Monáe utilizes it to blend musical and visual elements in the creation of a futuristic universe. Lastly, the visual, musical, and lyrical analysis will help us understand how the singer questions contemporary structures of oppression and addresses themes such as sexuality, gender equality, and race. |
