Educação em saúde: as contribuições freireanas na promoção da saúde emancipadora

Abstract

This article discusses health education through its historical and ideological factors that culminated in health promotion. Based on the contributions of Freire's pedagogy, this research seeks to understand the importance of emancipatory education for the construction of a therapeutic process that is also emancipatory, with the individual not just a patient, but an agent responsible for his/her health. These notes resize the role of the health professional, who must be more critical and creative, providing dialogical practices that enable a critical reflection of reality on the part of the subjects. Literacy, based on Freire's assumptions, proves to be a valid vision for work in promoting health and emancipating the subject.
