A revisão da violência contra a mulher no romance histórico de Ana Miranda e Maria José Silveira

Abstract

This dissertation analyzes the works Desmundo (1996), by Ana Miranda, and Her Mother’s Mother’s Mother and Her Daughters (2002), by Maria José Silveira, highlighting the narrative strategies of the historical novel explored to review violence against women in the colonial period. We defend the point of view that this review unfolds as an exercise in rewriting the past, providing a version of women's empowerment, present in the actions of the female characters who transgress the violence naturalized by the colonizers. In the analysis of the novels, we will highlight the narrative strategies of incorporating historical discourse and the feminist positioning of the authors, which problematize the construction of this genre by exploring postmodernist techniques of fictionalizing history based on the visibility of the woman's place of speech and recognition of the importance of female labor for the colonization of Brazil. Methodologically, we propose a debate about the relationship between literature and history, taking into account the contributions Peter Burke (2005), Hayden White (1994), Linda Hutcheon (1991), Marilene Weinhardt (1994), Mary Del Priore (2016), among others; Regarding the analysis of the different strategies for controlling a woman's body, we will follow the feminist critical approaches of Simone Pereira Schmidt (2007), María Lugones (2019) and Heloísa Buarque de Hollanda (2018). Furthermore, we articulate reflections on decoloniality and necropolitics to identify the actions of annihilation of the colonized following the interpretative propositions of Aníbal Quijano (2005), Walter Mignolo (2017) and Achille Mbembe (2016), among others/ to the. This work is divided in three sections. Firstly, our goal is to understand the structural peculiarities of the historical novel and how it has been explored by contemporary women writer. In the second, we analyze the creation process based on the intertextualities of official documents and literary texts from the colonial period in the intertwining between history and literature. In the third, we will identify the feminist marks of the creative process of the two authors, investigating how they explore necropolitics to denounce the different types of silencing imposed on women by the colonizer such as moral and psychological harassment, false imprisonment, beatings, rape and feminicide in order to control the family and the population of the country. As a result, we hope to identify the particularities of the creative process of Ana Miranda and Maria José Silveira, contesting the naturalization of violence against women in Brazilian history to reinforce the literary space as a place of historical review.
