Comunidade remanescente quilombola do Oiteiro em Penedo/Alagoas: dinâmicas e memórias nesse território tradicional

Abstract

The object of study of this dissertation is based on looking at the dynamics and memories of the Remaining Quilombola do Oiteiro Community located in the urban area of the municipality of Penedo-Alagoas and builtfrom the group of black refugeesin the 16 thcentury. It contains apast permeated with suffering, struggles, challenges, but also with resistance and the search for the revival and continuity of African ancestry. This ethnographic writing aims to investigate the trajectoryof black people in the formation of Penedense societyand get to know closelythe daily life experienced, with the main focus being the dynamics and memories of the quilombola community mentioned here and, from then on, think about ways that are capable of reflect on the appreciation of black people and the strengthening of African ancestry, such as carrying out projects in schools on cultural revival. The few written records found, interviews, reports, museum objects, photographs, monitoring of cultural moments and rituals, served as main information to understand the social organization of the Oiteiro quilombo. At the beginning of its colonization process, Penedo was highlightedas oneofthemost populouscenters ofblack people in the Alagoas region, with Quilombo do Oiteiro being a place of utmost importance to give visibility to this history. In this sense, the current dissertation brings relevant aspects such as: An overview of the historicity and trajectory of black people in Penedo/Al, highlighting the Malês black people who had a great influence on the beginnings of the construction of this place; The Black Brotherhood; The construction and deconstruction of black identity in the lands of Penedo/Alagoas based on slavery and the Quilombola Remnant Community of Oiteiro as a place that remembers and resists African ancestry, reviving its memories through troubled, but important, dynamics. The path to the construction of this Dissertation was followed through a brief theoretical study and ethnography carried out throughout the journey experienced in the research field in 2022 and 2023. Therelevance of this studyis expressed in the knowledge gained through the vision of the history of black people in Penedo, but specifically, in the discoveriesthat occurred and experiences lived within the traditional territory named as Quilombola Community of Oiteiro.
