Acolhimento institucional : considerações sobre o acolhimento de adolescentes em Aracaju/SE

Abstract

This present work addresses the theme of "Institutional Reception of Adolescents: challenges and coping mechanisms," focusing on a reception unit located in Aracaju, Sergipe. The study employed a qualitative-quantitative methodology. The research investigates the challenges faced by the adolescents accommodated in this context, as well as the professionals who work in the institution. Additionally, the objectives of our study are the analysis of the challenges faced by reception institutions, the strategies and coping policies adopted by the institution, and, finally, an understanding of how political, economic, and social changes have directly impacted the Social Assistance policy. Furthermore, we examine the profile of the accommodated individuals, with a focus on the prevalence of reasons for accommodation, such as street situations, mental disorders, family abuse, and sexual exploitation. The results reveal the vital importance of institutional reception in the lives of these socially vulnerable adolescents, with the Caçula Barreto Reception Unit demonstrating a remarkable commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment. The challenges faced by the adolescents, including adaptation, trauma recovery, and the pursuit of autonomy, are discussed, alongside the challenges faced by the professionals who play a fundamental role in the development of the adolescents. The analysis of the profile of the accommodated individuals also highlights the great diversity of situations faced, indicating a need for personalized approaches for each group. This study contributes to the academic understanding of institutional reception and provides practical insights to enhance the adolescent reception system in Aracaju, Sergipe, and potentially in other regions.
