Dados bioculturais inferem práticas ritualísticas de Afro-brasileiros no Nordeste do Brasil

Abstract

The present work deals with the search for understanding the cultural practices of Afro-Brazilian peoples in the colonial period. Among these manifestations, there is the intentional dental manipulation performed by several diasporic cultural groups, as a form of African cultural identity that could be related to aesthetics, cultural marker, custom, among other interpretations. In this study we observed three individuals of Negroid characteristics, coming from the Matriz Marechal Deodoro / AL, from the colonial period, with intense characteristics of the ritualistic practices involved and, above all, the intentional manipulation of the teeth as a cultural marker, allowing an advance in the understanding of ritualistic practices between African diaspora groups.
