A Aids no cinema estadunidense dos 80 e 90 do século XX: narrativas sócio afetivas no cinema de Aids

Abstract

It is a dissertation on the subject of aids in American cinema based on a survey published by Hart (2000), categorizing films released in the early period of the aids pandemic in the United States in the 1980s and 1990s. We carried out an exploratory research that resulted in the map ping andres cue of works whose distribution and commercial potential were neglected by the interest of the distributors; many of these works were not even released on DVD in Brazil. The interest in the aids pandemic and the eventual dissemination of these works in cinema and VHS and DVD rental companies of the time was a phenomenon restricted to the period studied, although the pandemic has continued to the present day. The current interest of American cinema seems to be to rescue these early years in a contemporary critical review. As our dissertative analysis focuses on the established period between the decades already mentioned, we immediately noticed a relevant sequence of changes in the sociological profile of the protagonists of the film plots. He also highlighted in his eyes the narrative transformations about the difficulties of treatment and the struggle of the organized social movements LGBTs. In this text we briefly present some central aspects of our perception in two iconic cinematographic works of the period.
