| Resumo : | O presente artigo tem como objetivo identificar o debate sobre a imigração para Sergipe na passagem do século XIX para o século XX. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida principalmente com base em jornais e coleções de leis. Ao final, pôde-se verificar que, não obstante ter vivenciado uma única experiência concreta, a imigração foi tema de leis e discursos que a associava à modernização econômica de Sergipe. |
| Abstract: | This article aims to examine the debate over immigration to Sergipe from the late 19th century into the 20th century. The research was based on newspapers and a collection of laws. In conclusion it was observed that, although without the evidence of a single concrete fact, immigration had been the reason for laws and the subject of discourses that associated it somehow with the economic modernization of Sergipe. |
