“Mãe guerra” : um processo épico e dialético de escrita e criação dramatúrgica

Abstract

This present work is a memorial that report the Mother War dramaturgy creation process with free inspiration from the plays Black Brecht: What If Brecht Were Black? by Dione Carlos and Mother Courage and her Children by Bertolt Brecht. The first creation steps were developed through the PIBIC 23/24 program with the research “Black Brecht”: Epic theater, Dramaturgy and Contemporaneity”, with financial support from COPES in the Theatre Teaching Degree at the Federal University of Sergipe. This memorial proposes to develop the writing process, grounded in Brecht’s theatre, as well as to analyze the characters and the social relations that give rise to society’s problems, questioning the existence of the characters Mother Fishmonger and Mother Courage in contemporary times, and also emphasizes the importance of dramaturgy in the present day, and as ultimate aim is to highlight theatrical creation as an essential point in the training of the theatre teacher-artist. The methodology outlined in this memorial is, firstly, bibliographic, as an interpretative-hermeneutic reading, and in its second stage, it involves the practice of constructing dramaturgy, beginning with excerpts and collage of the texts studied to reach the central idea and the conclusion of the process with literary and theatrical writing. The result of the practice of writing demonstrates how the approaches and procedures of Epic and Dialectical Theatre remain significant in the contemporary theatrical scene. Therefore, when the Mother characters bring forth the realities of their historical times and geographical spaces, suffering the loss of their children to the violence of armed forces, their coexistence is made possible, allowing the exercise of a critical gaze upon the problems and oppressions of today’s world. In this way, it was possible to understand, reflect upon, and question social structures with a view to transforming reality. In this sense, dramaturgical and theatrical creation enhances a professional development both in the artistic and pedagogical spheres, exploring sensibilities, expression, and communication, while acknowledging that such development may contribute to the implementation of a more critical, engaged, and aesthetically oriented education.
