Adesão e isolamento: a sinergia essencial para restaurações bem-sucedidas

Abstract

Introduction Moisture control in adhesive procedures is one of the most important precautions needed to ensure the success and longevity of adhesive interfaces. In this context, the use of maneuvers and procedures to control moisture in the oral cavity has become of utmost importance. Therefore, Absolute Isolation has emerged as the main tool in controlling aerosol dispersion and, mainly, in controlling moisture in the restorative context. Objective To evaluate the influence of absolute isolation on the success of adhesive interfaces of direct restorations. Methods Seventeen (seventeen) articles were selected from the academic platforms Google Scholar, Scielo, Pubmed, Scopus, based on the following descriptors taken from DECS and MESH: “Rubber dam”, “Rubber dam”, “Direct restoration”, “Restorative treatment”, “Adesivos dentinários” and “Dentin-Bonding Agents”. Results Based on the articles collected, it was possible to analyze that the use of absolute isolation minimizes the effects of intraoral humidity, improving resistance to shear forces during the use of adhesives. In addition, significant differences in bond strength were detected in cases where absolute isolation was adopted. It was also possible to analyze that restorations made without the use of absolute isolation were less susceptible to the formation of radiolucent areas at the tooth-resin interface, corroborating a higher success rate. Finally, it was possible to analyze even greater bond strength between adhesive and enamel in cases of two-step self-etching adhesives. Conclusion Therefore, it was possible to analyze that the use of adequate absolute isolation, combined with two-step self-etching adhesive systems, obtained higher success rates, with greater resistance and lower chances of failure.
