Avaliação da efetividade do Dry Needling na abertura bucal em pacientes com espasmo miofascial dos músculos da mastigação

Abstract

A temporomandibular disorder (TMD) involves problems with the temporomandibular joint, chewing muscles or skeletal muscle structures associated with the head and neck. It is classified as joint TMD and muscle TMD. Related to the last time we have myofascial pain, characterized by the presence of trigger points, which generate pain and limited muscle movements. Dry needling is a proven mechanical stimulus for the insertion of a needle in the muscle belly, which was not detected in the presence of a trigger point, and causes muscle relaxation, analgesia and increased vascularization in the inserted region. This objective study aims to evaluate the effect of dry needling (Dry Needling) without increasing the amplitude of mouth opening in patients with myofascial pain. The diagnosis and selection of patients were made based on anamnesis, modified questionnaire of the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Dysfunction (RDC / TMD), physical examination of palpation and gradation of the level of pain in the TMJ region and the limits of performance, as well as mouth opening measures in plates. After diagnosis, clarification of therapy and signature of the Free and Informed Consent Form, or the needling was done in 3 sessions, with an interval of one week between each session and as mouth opening measures before the start of treatment and after the end of each session has been interrupted. The results showed that, although there was an increase in the patients' mean oral amplitude, this value was not statistically significant, p> 0.05. He concluded that it was not possible to guarantee the efficacy of dry needling therapy to increase the range of mouth opening in patients with myofascial pain for this research group.
