| Resumo : | A fim de analisarmos as representações sociais da prostituição e a percepção de preconceito e estigmatização por parte das prostitutas, realizamos dois estudos em Aracaju no nordeste do Brasil. A pesquisa foi realizada em Janeiro de 2008, os dois estudos utilizaram entrevistas estruturadas. O primeiro deles foi realizado com 66 moradores de diversos bairros desta cidade o segundo estudo envolveu nove prostitutas concentradas na Orla de Aracaju. Análises de conteúdos das respostas do primeiro estudo indicaram que a prostituição é representada pelos entrevistados como exclusão social, imoral, aversiva ou estranha e as prostitutas são demonizadas. No segundo estudo verificamos que as prostitutas se sentem vítimas de preconceito e consideram estar numa situação de exclusão e estigmatização. Esses resultados são discutidos à luz das teorias sobre estigmatização e exclusão social. |
| Abstract: | In order to analyze the social representations of prostitution and the perception of prejudice and stigmatization by the prostitutes, two studies were carried out in Aracaju, northeast from Brazil. The research was conducted in January 2008, the two studies used structured interviews. The first was conducted with 66 residents of several neighborhoods in Aracaju, the second one involved nine prostitutes concentrated on the beach of Aracaju. Content analysis of responses from the first study indicated that prostitution is represented as social exclusion, immoral, or aversive and strange and prostitutes are demonized. In the second study we found that sex workers feel they are victims of prejudice and consider being in a situation of exclusion and stigmatization. These results are discussed in light of theories of stigmatization and social exclusion |
