A discriminação contra os judeus conversos desnuda na balança do Santo Ofício : uma reflexão sobre o memorial "notícias recônditas".

Abstract

It was from the Holy Office files that we learn of the defendants who were subjected to it. The issues that led to the formulation of the image of the convert in the Portuguese community of the seventeenth century are related to many factors such as: Religious, political, economic, social and other belonging to the social imaginary. Thus, this study aims to reflect on the conduct of judges of this institution towards old and Jews converts from discourse analysis and decisions contained in religious source and describes how the judgments were made about the pillar of discrimination contained in the memorial entitled "recondite News from the procedures of the Inquisition with their prisoners", for the Pope Clement X. It is believed that discrimination was based on a racist ideology built half a century ago by secular authorities who provided the church to base it needed to segregating their mission. Ethnic discrimination was not religion that condemned the new Christians.
