A relação entre virtude e felicidade em Sócrates

Abstract

Neste artigo, analisamos três hipóteses sobre a relação entre virtude e felicidade em Sócrates. Em primeiro lugar, a tese de Irwin (1995), que afi rma uma relação instrumental entre virtude e felicidade; em segundo, a tese de Vlastos (1994), que afi rma uma relação parcialmente constitutiva e, fi nalmente, após apontarmos contradições nestas, assumimos a tese da relação de identidade entre virtude e felicidade em Sócrates._________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT: In this paper we analyze three hypotheses about the relation between virtue and happiness in Socrates. In the fi rst place, Irwin’s thesis (1995) that asserts an instrumental relation between virtue and happiness; second, Vlastos’ thesis (1994) that asserts a partially constitutive relation and, finally, after discussing the contradictions in those theses, we stated the identity relation thesis between virtue and happiness in Socrates.
