Melhorias nas práticas transfusionais após intervenção educativa para o uso racional de hemocomponentes em um hospital público universitário

Abstract

Objective: To produce improvements in transfusion practices through the implementation of an educational program for health professionals in a university hospital. Methods: This is an interventional and prospective study, with analysis pre- and posteducational intervention. The research was developed at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Sergipe, involving participation of health professionals in the stage of capacitation, during the month of February 2011, beyond the monitoring of blood transfusions performed in the pre- and post-intervention periods. The survey of the transfusion practices was checked through the request to transfusion and devolution of hemocomponents unused. Knowledge of health professionals was addressed by the responses to a questionnaire about transfusion practice. Results: During the educative campaign, it was empowered 63 health professionals- 33 nurses and nursing technicians and 30 physicians. Between the doctors, there was a statistically significant gain of 20.1% on theorical knowledge. Gain in the nursing group was even higher: 30.4%. After the educational campaign was significant improvement in compliance indication of blood increase from 25,2% to 33,5%. Conclusions: We observed significant improvement of the entire process related to blood transfusions after interventional project conducted in February 2011.
