Um Controverso capítulo da Shoah : história e memória da atuação do Sonderkommando nos testemunhos de judeus em Auschwitz-Birkenau

Abstract

This article aims to analyze what the main testimonial reports of the jews who made up the Auschwitz-Birkenau Sonderkommando say. To do so, we will look lean into our privileged sources: at the books Sonderkommando: in the hell of the gas chambers (2010); We wept without tears: testimonies of the Jewish Sonderkommando from Auschwitz (2005); and Letters From Hell: The Records of the Jewish Sonderkommando Auschwitz (2019); in parallel to the dialogue with a bibliography that discusses the relationship between History and memory, and the importance of testimonial literature for the historiography of the Shoah. Through the testimonies of these Jews, we identify that the Sonderkommandos were prisoners who acted as agents to erase a future memory of the Shoah, designated by the Nazis to cover up the traces committed in this concentration camp.
