Samba de coco da rua São João : a influência negra na festividade de São João de Aracaju : 1910-1930

Abstract

The article focuses on the coconut samba in Saint John Street between 1910 and 1930, with the aim of demonstrating the black influence of this popular manifestation on the Saint John festivities held in Saint John street in the city of Aracaju, by investigating popular culture, understanding the Saint John festivities and understanding the relationship between black people and the Saint John festivities in Aracaju. How did it happened the black influence with the coconut samba at the Saint John festivity on Saint John street in the city of Aracaju between 1910 and 1930? To achieve the proposed objectives, the following steps were taken: Analysis of the African diaspora and the cultural movements produced from this milestone, Saint John festivities, history of the Industrial district, history of the Saint Anthony district, coconut samba, together with the analysis of sources for this work the newspapers Correio de Aracaju (1910- 1930), Diário da Manhã (1916-1922) and Sergipe Jornal (1927-1928). Finally, the conclusion that can be drawn is that the coconut samba of Saint John Street influenced the Saint John festivity in Saint John Street, since there are indications of a relationship between this cultural manifestation and the Saint John festivity, but it is difficult to find more information due to the orality and difficult nature of documenting popular culture.
