“Encarregada da direção”: vestígios das diretoras do Grupo Escolar Silvio Romero em Lagarto-SE (1924-1971)

Abstract

This research has the general objective of analyzing the educational memory of the Grupo Escolar Sílvio Romero (GESR), through a female perspective, focusing on the directors of the institution. The work is expected to contribute to the remembrance of these women’s names based on their accomplishments in the education system of Lagarto. For this research, a theoretical study was conducted, guided by an investigation using the following sources: speeches by the Presidents of the State, interviews with one of the female principals of GESR, school records, especially the Enrollment Book (1923-1939), as well as documents containing the list of vacant positions in 1927 and Inspection Reports, respectively found in the Public Archive of the State of Sergipe (1930-1956), and historical photographs that assisted in the narratives of this monograph. The sources were put into dialogue with the referring to the central themes of the object of study, namely the works of Rosa Fátima de Souza (2013 and 2019) and Marcos Levi Bencostta (2011) Jane Alves de Almeida (1998) and Guacira Lopes Louro (1997) in the context of women's history and teacher professionalization. Therefore, it aims at exploring the memories consisting of the work carried out by these female principals, but also enhancing the role of women in educational practices and the estabilishment of the Brazilian public school system. Thus, we seek to explore the memories constituted by the work developed by these managers, as well as to praise the female role in educational practices and in the constitution of the Brazilian public school with a focus on GESR. Thus, it concludes on the relevance of implementing this model of teaching the school group in primary education, as it expands through Sergipe territory reaching the city of Lagarto/SE, with the GESR. We also noted the work of directors for the consolidation of this primary education institution that is about to complete 100 years of foundation, these women teachers who received the function of being “in charge of the direction”.
