Estudos clássicos nos cursos de letras no Brasil: estudo bibliométrico via linguística de corpus

Abstract

After accessing Open Syllabus, a platform with the largest database of academic syllabi in the world, with over 20 million syllabi from 140 countries, we identified gaps in the data related to the curricula of Brazilian universities. Influenced by this lack, we justified, by delimiting the object of analysis to Classical Studies, compiling corpora about this object and investigating bibliographical aspects that allow us to portray, as a general objective, the theoretical and referential framework of teaching and learning Latin and Greek languages and literature in contemporary Brazil. This was done in parallel with the construction of a website, whose purpose is to disseminate the corpora constructed in the research, as well as the works and authors identified in it. The specific objectives of accurately tracking and interpreting epistemological traditions of Classical Studies in the country, of monitoring the network of federal universities that (do not) offer curricular components of this scope in their Literature courses, and of ranking works and authors by selecting undergraduate syllabi, allowed the production of bibliometric samples, critical analysis, presentation of the integrative review in this area, and discussion of the results. As a theoretical and methodological basis, we used the assumptions of Corpus Linguistics (Sardinha, 2004; McEnery and Hardie, 2012; Aluísio and Almeida, 2006). The study, up to this point, confirms the supremacy of the study of the Latin language over the Greek language, the persistence of a strictly grammatical pedagogical tradition, and the use of ancient works to the detriment of recent didactic works.
