Sinofobia e a pandemia de Covid-19 : um olhar para os discursos de políticos em fontes de notícia online através da Análise de Discurso francesa

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has marked international relations in different aspects of society and the international system. The global health crisis drove new dynamics of social interaction that highlighted pre-existing power relations in different areas of society. In this context, media representations about the Chinese – immigrants or not – emerged, which constitute an update of discursive regularities about the Chinese “other”. Our focus is to analyze Sinophobia in the speech of Brazilian politicians during the Covid-19 pandemic based on a survey of online news sources. The methodology used was French Discourse Analysis with a Foucauldian bias with elements from Pêcheux. The chosen time frame begins with the first case of Covid-19 confirmed in Brazil and ends with the official declaration of the pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). The research seeks to understand the dynamics of sinophobia, based on the speeches of politicians through online news sources, identifying the conditions under which these speeches are produced and the production of meaning around sinophobia in Brazil.
