O papel dos intelectuais : uma reflexão dialógica entre os pensamentos de Edward Said e Antonio Gramsci

Abstract

This work aims to analyse how the palestinian intelectual Edward Said adresses the role of intellectuals in his work, especially through his particular Reading of the writings of the sardinian communist leader Antonio Gramsci. Intellectuals are not neutral observers but active agentes who operate within power struggles. The dialogue between these two authors makes it possible no construct a perspective that rescues the role of the intelectual as a “permanente persuader”, an outsider who challenges power structures by positioning himself on the margins, in contrast to the hegemonic figure of the professional especialista, who generally legitimizes relations of oppression or remains silent in the face of them. In the end, the conclusions developed by this work highlight relevant issues to the formation of intellectuals in the field of International Relations.
