| Resumo : | A atresia maxilar está entre os mais comuns e prejudiciais problemas esqueletais da região craniofacial. A expansão rápida da maxila (ERM) ou disjunção é um dos procedimentos clínicos mais utilizados na prática ortodôntica e consiste num método utilizado para o restabelecimento da relação esquelética transversal normal entre as bases ósseas. Para obter uma expansão rápida maxilar, é necessário que haja a disjunção da sutura palatina através de aparelhos ortopédicos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma revisão de literatura sobre a expansão rápida da maxila através da utilização do aparelho Hyrax e demonstrar, por meio de um relato de caso de uma paciente do gênero feminino, 9 anos de idade, seus resultados, tanto clínico como radiograficamente. O aparelho Hyrax é um disjuntor fixo ativo e de ancoragem dentossuportada, que possui como vantagem facilidade de higienização, por não ter cobertura acrílica no palato, como o aparelho de Haas, que provoca irritações no tecido mole devido à impacção de alimentos sob este. Concluiu-se que a ERM, quando bem indicada, é eficiente e estável e que o aparelho Hyrax mostra- se eficaz quanto à disjunção e permite ao paciente efetuar uma melhor higienização. |
| Abstract: | The maxillary constriction is among the most common and harmful craniofacial skeletal problems. Rapid maxillary expansion (RME) or disjunction is one of the most commonly used medical procedures in orthodontic practice and is a method used to restore the normal transverse relationship between skeletal bone bases. To get a maxillary expansion is necessary the disjunction of the palatine suture through orthopedics appliances. The aim of this study was to review the literature on rapid maxillary expansion using Hyrax appliance and demonstrate, through a case report of a female patient, 9 years old, its results, both clinically and radiographically. The Hyrax appliance is an active and tooth-borne expander fixed that has the advantage of easy cleaning by not having acrylic cover, like Haas, on the palate, which caused irritation of the soft tissue due to the food impaction in this. In conclusion, RME, when properly indicated, is efficient and stable and the Hyrax appliance is effective as to the disjunction and allows the patient to make a better cleaning. |
