| Abstract: | Introduction: Artificial intelligence (AI) is a broad field of computer science that has the ability to reproduce actions previously restricted to human cognition. AI has proven to be a great ally in the care of patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) due to its efficiency, speed, and accuracy. Objective: To map the available evidence in the literature on the applications of AI in the management of patients with TBI. Method: This is a scoping review that followed the PRISMA extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR) checklist and the methodology of the Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewer’s. The guiding question of this review was defined as: what evidence is available in the literature on the application of AI in the management of patients with TBI? The searches were conducted in the following databases: National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health (PubMed), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, Cochrane, Google Scholar, Theses Canada, and Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD). Records applying AI in the management of TBI patients were added; publications in Portuguese, English, and Spanish were included, without limitations regarding the year of publication. Result: 260 articles were included in the review, predominantly studies published in the USA (40%) and China (11.54%), in the years 2022 to 2024; in addition, 43.46% of the samples referred to cohort studies. There was a frequency of 27% of studies in patients with all types of TBI (mild, moderate, and severe), with AI being most applied as a prognostic and diagnostic tool, with 51.55% and 28% respectively. Regarding the types of AI, it is noteworthy that 58.46% made use of machine learning (ML). Conclusion: In general, artificial intelligence has stood out as a tool with high potential and continuous improvement in the management of TBI, showing promising perspectives for the healthcare scenario by contributing to the qualification of care, support for clinical decision-making, and optimization of care flows |
