Com a séria intenção de refutar o fundamento de todas as filosofias que têm a pretensão de produzir um discurso verdadeiro sobre a estrutura da realidade, Górgias desenvolve suas três famosas teses: Nada é; Ainda que fosse, seria incognoscível; Ainda que fosse cognoscível, seria incomunicável.
