Abstract

In the XIX century the romantism has become a literary model really popular, and trying to create a character autentclly national, many writers used the brazilian native people as a reference to this character. Wicth the passing of the following decades, emerged in the north of the country a regionalist nortistmoviment witch searched in the sertanejo this figure full of unic virtues that made the brazilian man different from the european model. Rodolfo Teófilo, José de Alencar, Franklin Távora and many other names of the Brazilian Literature had a fundamental importance to the popularization of the nortist literature, and they were a reference to Barroso to build his perspective about the subject matter, and was in this context that Gustavo Barroso emerged as a strong personality in this moviment.Breaking up with the romantic tradicionalism, Gustavo Barroso brings a new perspective about the sertão and their native man, grounding his thesis with philosophical, sociological, historical and biological concepts from many others personalities as Thaine and Standal, doing a really complex analisis of the sertão, cangaço and banditismo, becoming this way a strong reference in this subject matter, but in the passing of his life by the fact of his politic perspective inside the Integralistmoviment, has been exilated from the historic researchs inside the academy
