Oscar Pistórius, um deficiente eficiente? Considerações sobre a segregação/inclusão no paradesporto: um olhar a partir da mídia

Abstract

In this paper, we address the issues relevant to the inclusion and segregation which could be observed when monitoring the media in relation to Oscar Pistorius, a South African athlete and all the controversy that surrounded the World Athletics Championships/2011 when performed in South Korea, from August 27th to September 4th. We analyzed the site Globo.com watching the news about the participation of Pistorius in a period of a month. There were 24 related news, when 23 of which were analyzed from the depth hermeneutics views. We perceived the existence of a schedule for the athlete for his case of originality and controversy, that is, for being the first bi-amputee athlete to compete in events with athletes without disabilities - Although, the focus has been simplistic without deepen the matter. From what has been investigated is visualized the tensions between the issues of inclusion and segregation, the opposition between "normal" versus "handicapped", and, between "man" versus "machine". The latter, "man" versus "machine." - is found in both fragments of texts reports analyzed and also in the photographic news material. Another consideration that can be made on the research is about a possible redefinition of athletic achievements, since Pistorius, with his originality and his polemic, breaks paradigms in that segregation/inclusion process and raises questions about human nature with the use of his prostheses.
