Para ficar bonita tem que sofrer? As pedagogias culturais nas notícias do G1

Abstract

The general objective of this research is to discuss G1 news as cultural artifacts that emit cultural pedagogies and permeate ways of being a woman. We studied three news stories from 2024, entitled: I) Influencer dies in DF after cosmetic procedure to increase buttocks; II) Police investigate death of woman after undergoing cosmetic procedures for more than 10 hours in a clinic in PA; III) Woman is in a wheelchair and cannot walk one month after cosmetic procedure in Rio. To guide the research, we asked: how can feminist perspectives promote critical awareness in the face of cultural pedagogies that operate in the formation of feminine identities? The analysis was based on Cultural Studies and the macro category Modes of Address to identify which addresses are present in this research and how they can be pedagogical for readers through documentary research associated with bibliographic research. Discussed based on theorizations of Naomi Wolf (1991) and bell hooks (2018). We found that none of the three news stories are committed to emancipating women; on the contrary, they serve as statistics of cases of women who may appear, based on the representations in the headline and the photographs, as reckless and guilty. We highlight the commitment of feminisms to contributing to the liberation of women.
