Qualidade de sementes de coentro comercializadas em feiras livres do sertão sergipano

Abstract

Problems related to twinning and emergence are attributed to the culture of coriander, mainly due to the way in which they are acquired by producers. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the physiological quality of coriander seeds sold in open markets in the Sertão Sergipano. The seeds were obtained at street markets in the cities of Nossa Senhora da Glória (Lot 1), Gracho Cardoso (Lot 2), Porto da Folha (Lot 3), Monte Alegre de Sergipe (Lot 4) and a commercial witness cv. “Verdão” (Lot 5). The experimental design used was completely randomized, with five treatments and four replications. The following were evaluated: Degree of moisture (%) Weight of one hundred seeds (g), First Count (%), Germination percentage (%), Seedling emergence (%), Seedling emergence speed index, Accelerated aging (%) and also the Electrical Conductivity (µS cm-1 g-1) with variations in the imbibition time (0, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 24 hours). There was a significant difference in all studied variables. The seed lot from Montes Alegre de Sergipe was the one with the highest average values, with 50.5% for First Count, 84.0% Germination percentage, 89.5% for seedling emergence and 5.22 in the Index Seedling Emergency Speed and 1.20 g for weight of one hundred seeds. For accelerated aging, the lots obtained averages above 75% of germination. For electrical conductivity, the seeds of lot 4 obtained the lowest conductivity values. As a result, seeds from the city of Monte Alegre de Sergipe had the highest physiological quality and the greatest vigor among the studied lots.
