Biblioteca Leozírio Guimarães do Conservatório de Música de Sergipe : estruturar para informar Sergipe

Abstract

The Leozírio Guimarães Library, which is located in the Conservatório de Música de Sergipe (CMSE), is the only Special Library in Music nearby. Its collection includes books, sheet music and vinyl records, and serves the institution's teaching and student community. Noting the great potential for disseminating Sergipe's musical culture and research on this field, as well as the assumption about the urgent need for a structuring of this information unit, the research was planned in an applied and qualitative way, leading to produce a diagnosis, with a study of the informational needs of the community served and recommendations for managerial planning. The general objective of the research that embodied this work was to develop an action plan for the structuring of the Leozírio Guimarães Library. The specific objectives, equally achieved, were to identify and sort out the main problems that affect the quality of information resources; justify the importance of hiring the librarian, due to the specificity of the informational functions; carry out a survey of special information needs with the community served; to offer to the CMSE and the Secretary of Education of Sergipe possible solutions for the better functioning of the analyzed information unit. The hypothesis about the situation of the Leozírio Guimarães Special Library was confirmed by the results obtained in the diagnosis, whose collection instruments: observations in the empirical field, interviews with students and professors and application of questionnaires. Among the difficulties detected, the lack of a Librarianship professional stands out as the main one, so that all the others stem, to a large extent, from this first one. The identification of each problem allowed the delineation of the actions considered essential for the structuring of this space, being the primary action to hire a Librarian with knowledge in Music. As final considerations, the research verified that the materialization of the potential of the analyzed information unit, if the due investment is made in human resources, space, equipment, sources of information and accessibility resources. This was a case of observation that clearly demonstrated the need for the librarian in action, when it comes to informing and building specialized knowledge.
