Internações hospitalares por transtornos mentais e comportamentais, de residentes em Sergipe, de 2001 a 2013

Abstract

Objective: To analyze hospital admissions profile for Mental and Behavioral Disorders (MBD), from residents in Sergipe, from 2001 to 2013. Methods: From the Hospital Record System were collected informations regarding to the MBD which they were analyzed by TabWin app. This is a retrospective study, where the variables studied were: year, sex, age group, place of residence, length of stay, diagnosis, hospitalization units and outcomes. Results: Between 2001 to 2013, the total hospital admissions for MBD was 62.644, where there was a male predominance (142.4% greater). In addition, the age group with the highest rate (per hundred thousand inhabitants) was 40-49 years (636.4) and residence areas with the highest rates were Aracaju (356.0) and Nossa Senhora do Socorro (308.8). Thus, there was a reduction in hospitalizations coefficients, in both sexes, from 277.9 in the first three years to 157.5 in the last year beyond and increase in hospitalizations with seven days or less (116.0%). Among the hospitalization units, general hospitals increased their participation from 0.1% to 49.1% compared to psychiatric hospitals. Among women, there was a predominance coefficient of hospitalizations for schizophrenia while among men by psychoactive substance use. These hospitalizations contributed to an increase in hospital mortality of 175.0% from the first to the last three years. Conclusions: It was possible to observe a change in the profile of psychiatric hospitalizations in the state of Sergipe in the studied period. Then this investigation can lead to a correct direction of the mental health services in Sergipe.
