A bela morte é o belo fim da vida de Sócrates

Abstract

Neste artigo apresento algumas reflexões sobre o excelente texto “A Morte Feliz” de Izabela Aquino Bocayuva, sobretudo no que se refere à morte de Sócrates. Observando que Izabela não deixa claro a que “Sócrates” se refere em seu texto, se ao Sócrates dos primeiros diálogos de Platão ou se à personagem “Sócrates” dos diálogos da maturidade e da velhice, passo à questão da morte de Sócrates, afirmando que es te buscava não o viver a todo custo, e tampouco o escapar a todo custo da morte para viver, mas sim o bem viver, que para ele, significa viver harmonizando a alma de modo a torná-la no mais alto grau possível imagem da ordem do mundo. Assim, temos no Socrates dos primeiros diálogos de Platão. _________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT: In this paper I present some reflections about Izabela Aquino Bocayuva ’s excellent text “The Happy Death”, mainly on Socrate ́s death. Noting that Izabela does not make clear to which “Socrates” her text makes refference, if to the Socrates of Plato’s first dialogues or if to the character “Socrates” of the dialogues of maturity and old-age, I pass to the question of Socrate’s death, mantaining that Socrates did not try to live at any priced, but to live well, which for him, means living harmonizing the soul in or der to make it, to one’s best and in the highest degree, an image of the order of the world. So we have in the Socrates of the first dialogues an ethics which is at the same time an existencial aesthetics. uma ética que é uma estética do existir.
