O percurso festivo das escolas sergipanas na Primeira República (1911- 1930)

Abstract

Festive celebrations represent a significant element within any human community. Through these events, it's possible to impart specific knowledge to participants, which manifests in both tangible practices and the creation of symbolic social representations. In the context of primary schools during the First Republic in Sergipe, these festivities found a robust institutional platform, encompassing school infrastructure and its professionals, who were dedicated to disseminating cultural representations rooted in the festive events endorsed by the Provisional Government.Within this context, the analysis of the frequency and consistency of civic celebrations occurring between 1911 and 1930, organized by school groups on the streets, takes on prominence. Employing a qualitative approach, the investigation employs the categories of practices and representations proposed by Roger Chartier. This perspective enables a deeper comprehension of the interplay between the concrete actions conducted during the festivities and the symbolic messages that such events convey. Consequently, it yields valuable insights into how these celebrations not only bolstered the sense of belonging and identity but also functioned as conduits for transmitting cultural values and political ideas to society.
