Avaliação dos esquemas de suplementação de Ferro e Vitamina D em lactentes atendidos em um ambulatório de referência

Abstract

Children are highly vulnerable to macro and micronutrient deficiency due to their accelerated growth and development, especially up to the 2nd year of life. Therefore, the supply of specific nutrients must be strictly carried out. The present study carried out a cross-sectional descriptive observational analysis aiming to explore information about the prevalence of the use of Iron and Vitamin D Supplementation schemes in Infants treated at a Reference Outpatient Clinic in the city of Lagarto-SE. It was identified that more than half of the infants received Iron and Vitamin D supplementation, with the majority of them being children, with an inadequate number of consultations for their age. The supplements were majority indicated by the pediatrician and there was weakness in the age at which supplements were started, and they were commonly started at an inappropriate time. Deficient knowledge about supplements was observed among the maternal sample, however, the majority intended to maintain supplementation for the prescribed period of time. The group of mothers who stopped taking supplements for their children showed different justifications, with many mentioning the lack of need due to the absence of diseases in the children.
