Materialização das diretrizes antirracistas no sistema de justiça face à influência da mídia e do perfilamento racial da força de segurança em Sergipe

Abstract

This research investigated the implementation of anti-racist guidelines in the Sergipe Justice System, analyzing its connection to the influence of media sources in maintaining racial profiling and racism. Thus, its general objective was to analyze the materialization of the anti-racist guidelines proposed by/for the Justice System in light of the treatment given to defendants by the press, Security Forces, and their influence on sentences. Regarding specific objectives, it presents: a) Identifying the existence of an anti-racist policy and/or guidelines and anti-racist principles in the Brazilian justice system; b) Investigating, in light of the anti-racist guidelines contained in the documents of the Justice System, the treatment of Black defendants by the press and Security Forces; c) Analyzing the materialization of anti-racist guidelines for guaranteeing the rights of the Black population in light of the intricate relationship between the media, Security Forces, and the Justice System. This work is the result of documentary and bibliographical research with a qualitative approach, grounded in a historical-critical perspective of reality. The results of this research reveal that, despite legislative advances, difficulties in the materialization of anti-racist perspectives were observed in the cases studied, since the Justice System is linked to media narratives that, for the most part, prioritize versions presented by the Security Forces. These versions do not explicitly include the element of race, but use stereotypical terms related to Black and mixed-race people, without being questioned by the media. With its strong influence on society, the media ends up impacting the Justice System, contributing to the stigmatization of the Black population and hindering the effectiveness of the practice of anti-racist guidelines.
